I wonder… if Jesus were alive today, how would He use social media? Would He have a fan page on Facebook? Millions of followers on Twitter? Miraculous picture posts on Instagram? I wonder…how He would use YouTube—would He tell dynamic and enigmatic parables or would He teach about relationship over religion, love over law? I wonder…would Jesus use Vine? Would He join LinkedIn? Would Jesus Snapchat?I wonder if He would get so frustrated with having a “fan page” on Facebook that He would shut it down for lack of true followers. You see, Jesus desires followers up close, not fans from a distance. And while His Twitter account would probably have billions of followers, I wonder if He would advertise Kyle Idleman’s book ‘Not a Fan’ to challenge an evaluation of whether we are fans or followers. Or maybe He would just retweet His own words, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me……”. I wonder how many favorites that tweet would generate, especially when Jesus would know who is being real and who is being fake.I wonder if He’d monitor His Instagram “likes” and then base His next post on what everybody liked? Or maybe He would post His garden of Gethsemane selfie, with blood dripping out His pores to honor the Fathers will of not living for self. And with the media app Vine, I can imagine Him recording the truth that He is the Vine. And if anyone is disconnected from Him, then regardless of their 6-seconds of earthly fame, they are headed towards hell for eternity. And His LinkedIn would be to connect solely and intimately for salvation, not intellectually and professionally towards a greater salary. As for Snapchat….well, you can scratch that. There’d be no use for Jesus with that “fast and fun” mobile conversation. Nope! He is into nothing that deletes itself to hide the message sent. Sounds suspicious to me. In fact, He’d want it to be brought to the light because whatever “snap” is being “chatted” ought to be used for what’s right! Now here’s the wonder…Jesus IS alive today and He manifests Himself even through social media without compromising that He is the Way. We misuse it. We abuse it. Thus, Social Media for a CHRISTian ought to be just another way to live out your iCONVICTION. Therefore, when Jesus is at the center of it, don’t expect the world to understand it, and certainly expect many to criticize it. But for the sake of your testimony, don’t dare compromise it!“Like” it or not, Jesus runs my Social Media!
