GAINING GOD IS THE MEANING OF GODLINESS

Godliness is not a means of gain because gaining God is the meaning of godliness. You see, becoming more like God has nothing to do with the material and everything to do with character. It is about having a new nature, going from being governed by our fallenness to being governed by godliness. "Men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself. Now godliness with contentment is great gain" (1 Timothy 6:5-6).
