I am convinced that man’s greatest need is God’s greatest deed. And that need is the forgiveness of sins, and that deed is the sacrifice of the Son! You see, those who have been forgiven should be first and foremost to forgive. If you have been pardoned, then no one should have to beg for your pardon. And I know this may not be easy, depending on the hurt, but it is our spiritual responsibility to keep bitterness from taking root in our hearts. C.S. Lewis once said, “To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." In other words, we forgive and extend mercy because we have been forgiven undeservedly by God’s mercy. Jesus said, “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” (Matthew 6:14-15).
