God sanctifies us through affliction because of the sanctity of His affection. In other words, since His love is holy, He loves us too much to not make us holy and often through the sanctification of affliction. "I know, O Lord, that Your judgments are right, that in faithfulness You have afflicted me" (Psalm 119:75).
