Sometimes you just have to pray through your nightmare because sometimes, just sometimes, our dreams are swallowed by a pit, a prison, or a pain. I immediately think of Joseph in the Bible. In so many verses it says that “the Lord was with Joseph and he prospered.” Mind you, he was a slave and the Lord’s hand was still with him mightily and obviously. BUT here’s the point: God’s only with a man or woman who is committed to being with God. Again, the Bible confirms, “the LORD is with you when you are with him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you” (II Chronicles 15:2).Joseph could have gotten bitter, but he chose to trust in God, which made him better. He held on to his dreams. He did not allow his circumstances to squelch his hope in the Lord. It wasn’t easy, but you better believe it was worth the journey!Sometimes you just have to pray through your nightmare and know the Lord never sleeps on you…Having said that, this morning, while working on a project and going through old files, I found this prayer that I wrote in my first year in prison. I hope it guides you through whatever nightmare you're facing—it did mine!“O Lord, my thoughts seem scattered, my dream seems shattered, but truth be told, I forgot what mattered. In You I trust, in You I must, but truth be told, we all return to dust. But the soul goes on, and hope rolls on, but truth be told, my minds holding on. I thought I knew, I saw the view, but truth be told, I lost sight of You. It all seemed right, the bond was tight, but truth be told, I could not sleep at night. Now here I am, alone again, but truth be told, it’s no longer then. The now is here, the now is near, but truth be told, there’s no longer fear. The answer’s You, the question’s You, if the truth be told, it was always You. My dreams now back, in tact to act, the truth be told, it was faith I lacked! Forgive me Lord, I’m now all Yours, Your truth be told, “Your love’s what cures!””
