The sun of the nighttime sky is the stuff of romance and poetry. Bob Dylan wrote: “The pale moon rose in all its glory.” Dean Martin crooned: “When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s amore!” The moon may look like a painting against a black backdrop or a one-dimensional photograph, but it’s real. You can question the first moon landing and debate whether that event was a hoax, as many conspiracy theorists do. But no one questions the actual existence of the earth’s natural satellite because no one can deny the sight of reflective light. That is why it is the moon that I must strive to be—because then I know that my light has nothing to do with me. The moon is not producing the light that we see at night. Though surrounded by darkness, the moon’s silver illumination is a mirror-like, reflective response of the sun’s glory. Without the sun, the moon would remain in darkness.Likewise, we remain in darkness when we are without the Son’s glory. Without HIS LIGHT, we cannot shine; and we only show a light-deprived and depraved side—our dark side. We need the Son’s light in our lives that we may reflect HIS LIGHT in the darkness of the world. Is anyone enjoying your moon-light? Are nonbelievers looking into the black backdrop of your life and seeing your bright side or your dark side? The only way the moon can be blocked from the sun’s powerful light is when the earth gets in the way. When the world gets between the sun and the moon, it’s called a lunar eclipse. The earth’s shadow then obscures the moon. If you, like the moon, live your life as a mirror of God’s Son, then your reflection will highlight the paths of those walking in the dark. The moon cannot take credit for its light; likewise, when you help those living in the darkness, you must make it clear that you are nothing without HIS LIGHT.Astronomers and astrologers read the sky for signs and answers. Thus, being the moon as the only Bible that somebody may read is leading them to a telescopic conclusion: a sight that brings something invisible into view. Your example ought to close the distance between those who are gazing at your “sky” (your life) through “the lens of your telescope” (your conduct) and the God of the Bible’s compassionate character and loving nature. Many are scared of God and afraid to read the Bible because they don’t understand Him or His word. Therefore, it is crucial for us to bring misunderstanding and misinterpretation to light. One of the biggest turn-offs for nonbelievers is hypocrisy. When you know your humble position in the solar system of life, you don’t have to exhaust yourself being a planet you’re not. You don’t have to force yourself into the mold of another orbit. No! You just have to be real—you can’t fake real. Being the moon is giving the sun all the glory; be the moon, and give the Son all the glory, honor, and praise in all that you do. Being moon-like isn’t about causing people to be moonstruck nor is it about causing them to “howl” like “we’re wolves” (werewolves!). It is simply reflecting Christ’s light. Christ is the center of a believer’s life as the sun is the center of our solar system; let us reflect HIS LIGHT to a dark night.
