JUST KEEP PRAYING

So much bad news in this world, yet so many still reject the Good News of Jesus. From the parlor tricks of politics to the mass murders sponsored by ISIS, when will this world see who Christ is? So many people say they’ll pray for those afflicted by tragedy, but that sympathy can be summed up by one recent interviewers theology.A news reporter asked him this question outside of the Orlando nightclub: “The millions that are watching this, that want to help, is there anything you want to tell them? Anything you want to tell the world right now? What do you need to get through this?”His response (verbatim), “Just keep praying. I’m not a very religious person or whatever. Whatever religion you are, no matter what you believe, just send whatever our way. We all need it, we all need something, we all need that hope. Just keep praying.”And I guess the world will just keep praying to whatever and hoping whatever sends something, anything that will make sense of things. “Just keep praying.” But the world “just keeps praying” to no one; because there is no other name to pray to or in, but Gods Son. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).  In other words, there is no other hope except the hope that can only be found in Jesus’ name.  So while the world just keeps praying to no one, I’m going to keep pointing to the only One. His name is Jesus and He is not “a something”, but “a Someone.”  He is the only Hope that can fill a hopeless situation. And His very Person is the definition of True religion. Without His Good News, the world’s best news is still a nightmare. And without using His name, there is no vehicle that can successfully drive prayer.I’m just saying that “just keep praying” isn’t good theology. But let us pray to the One True God on behalf of those who are afflicted by yet another mass shooting tragedy.
