The ministry of Jesus was publicly loud. So loud--that His life and love 2000 years later--are still impacting hearts and changing the world for the good. The question must be asked then--How did He accomplish so much in such a short period of time?Well, after a close look within the Scriptures, we will discover that Jesus was living loudly because He spent intentional time listening quietly. One of many texts says, “So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed” (Luke 5:16).Over and over again in the Scriptures we see that Jesus never did an outward work or spoke an upward word without taking an inward moment to listen to His Father in private. Thus, if the Son of God found it necessary to get alone with His Father, how much more do we need this devotion, this isolation, to help us navigate the world’s commotion? You see, it’s within this quiet place where we shut the door on the world and open the window to heaven to hear from the Lord. Because if the truth be told—nothing should ever speak louder than a life that is following the Savior. Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Therefore, let us check our hearing and then get close enough to the Word so that we can hear what God is saying.
